As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Positions
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Class D, Chauffeurs License required. Starting salary $16.06/hr, premium pay $1/hr, 10% increase upon permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Class A, CDL required. Starting salary $17.18/hr, premium pay $1/hr, 10% increase upon permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Class A, CDL required. Starting salary $21.05/hr.
No Civil Service test score is required.

Job Duties
50% Operate the following heavy equipment, as needed:
Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted)
Backhoes
Front end loaders
Bucket/ladder trucks
Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs but Dozers ( Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)
Gradalls
Hot mix pavers ( Motor Grader
Lowboys
Milling machines ( Road planner
Road widener ( Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted)
Striping machines
Sweepers
Track hoes (excavators)
Under bridge inspection units (trailer mount)
40% Performs a wide variety of tasks such as cutting trees by possibly using man lifts, loading and unloading materials such as creosote timbers, concrete barriers, and large culverts and/or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, etc. May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guardrail, fencing, pipe, catch basins, and drainage structures. May train and/or assist in training lower level operators or laborers. Assists Roadside Development Herbicide Applicator by unloading and loading material or equipment. Removes litter and debris from state maintained highways and interstate systems and assists the Roadside Development Herbicide Applicator with various landscape maintenance projects.
5% Prior to equipment operations, conducts routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment, reports problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or takes necessary corrective action whenever possible. Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacturer recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely. Prepares any necessary paperwork (e.g., mileage, oi/gas usage, etc.) as directed.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Minimum Qualifications
No experience or training is required.
Function of Work: To operate mobile equipment to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.
Level of Work: Experienced.
Supervision Received: General from a foreman or higher level.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise functional over lower graded operators or laboring personnel.
Location of Work: Statewide.
Job Distinctions: Differs from Light by operating larger equipment. Differs from Operator 2 by operating heavier equipment.
